0024 John betts i cello

    John Betts I c1820-1837

John Betts (1768-1837) was born the son of a farmer in Stamford Lincolnshire. At the ripe old age of 13 he moved to London for an apprenticeship with Richard Duke. Betts set up his own business in 1781 and employed the cream of the instruments makers in London at that time including Bernard Simon Fendt, John Furber, Joseph and Lockey Hill, Vincenzo Panormo and Richard Tobin.

This cello is in excellent condition and probably one of the later works from John Betts workshop. It has a rich sound even in all registers.

The Betts is available for loan
