Richard Duke violin 18th C (school of)

Richard Duke  (1718 – 1783) was a prolific English luthier in the 18th C. He opening his shop in 1743 and hired a number of excellent craftsmen including John Betts, who took over the business when Duke died in 1783. Betts created one off the two significant luthier and dealership along the Dodd business.

Duke often stamped the button, "Duke, London". This instrument has a different stamp, "L" so it maybe be by a workshop luthier, possibly Betts.
